Yoplait launches lactose-free yogurt

FBR Staff Writer Published 02 February 2012

Yoplait has launched Yoplait Lactose Free, the brand's first lactose-free yogurt. The new product is 99% fat free and features 50% of the daily value of calcium and vitamin D.

Yoplait Lactose Free is available in four flavors; Strawberry, Peach, Cherry and French Vanilla, and contains no artificial sweeteners.

Yoplait Lactose Free spokesperson Christina Meyer-Jax said that people with lactose intolerance may avoid yogurt altogether because they do not want to deal with the worry of digestive symptoms.

"When people avoid dairy, like yogurt, they may have lower intakes of important bone-building nutrients like calcium and vitamin D. With 50% of the Daily Value of calcium and vitamin D, Yoplait Lactose Free offers a great solution," Meyer-Jax added.

Yoplait is supporting the new product with an integrated marketing campaign. Yoplait Lactose Free is is available across the US for a suggested retail price of $0.90 per cup. According to the company, the new product is made with milk from cows not treated with rBST.

US food giant General Mills owns 51% controlling interest in Yoplait.
